Herb Carnegie

He was known as “one of the best ever players to never play pro-league hockey” during an era in the 1940s and 1950s when blacks were not welcome in the NHL. Hockey great Herb Carnegie is an inductee of 2014 to the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame. “Sometimes it takes a while for the deeds that are so great in our lives to catch up to us,” said his daughter, Bernice Carnegie, who runs the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation. Herb Carnegie is a member of both the Order of Ontario and the country’s highest civilian award, the Order of Canada. We are proud to include Herb Carnegie among the sports elite as a member of the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.
