Mike Ceresia, from Sarnia, Ontario, won 5 Gold Medals at the International Racquetball Federation – World Championships. This is the most World Titles won by a Canadian Racquetball Athlete. He played in 8 straight biennial World Championships and finished with 15 Silver and 3 Bronze Medals. Ceresia also won 10 Canadian National Racquetball Championships (two singles and 8 doubles).
Ceresia was a key member on the Canadian men’s team that won gold four times: 1988, 1996, 2000 and 2002, as well as a gold medal for Overall/Combined Team in 2000. Ceresia and his partners won the deciding match for the men’s team title in 1988, 2000 and 2002. These three title clinching victories were over the United States and he hit the Gold Medal winning shots in 1988 and 2002 to bookend an amazing International Racquetball Career.
He is the only athlete to defeat all 3 United States Singles Players at a World Championship Event. He accomplished this feat in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in 1994 where he finished with a Silver Medal.
In addition, he played over 500 racquetball tournaments from 1982-2004 and defeated 8 Former World Number 1 players in Singles.
He also won a Silver Medal in Singles at the Canada Winter Games in Chicoutimi and a Silver Medal when Racquetball made it’s debut at the 1995 Pan Am Games in Argentina.
